World Popular Song Festival - Kylie Minogue

Kylie Ann Minogue, born in 1968, is an Australian pop singer, songwriter and actress. After beginning her career as a child actress on Australian television, she achieved recognition through her role in the soap opera Neighbours. Her first single Locomotion spent seven weeks at no. 1 on the Australian charts. Her debut album in 1988 was a great success in Australia and parts of Europe. In 1988 Kylie was chosen to represent Australia at the World Popular Song Festival in Japan with the song Got To Be Certain but the Festival was cancelled due the illness of emperor Hirohito. After that she released the single I Should Be So Lucky which reached no. 1 in Australia and the UK. Her following 10 singles were big hits all over the world and Kylies but movie was a success in Australia and the Uk despite negative reviews.

Initially presented as a girl next door, Kylie attempted to convey a more mature style in her music and image. Her singles were well received, but after four albums her success was declining and she left her producers Stock, Aitken & Waterman in 1992 to establish herself as an independent performer which she still is.
