Anneke Grönloh

Louise Johanna (Anneke) Grönloh, (Tondano, Dutch East Indies, June 7 1942) is a Dutch singer who is very popular in the Netherlands, Germany, Indonesia and Singapore.

Anneke began to sing in the early 60's and was the first real teen idol in the Netherlands after a few huge hits like Brandend Zand, Paradiso, Cimeroni and Soerabaja.

In 1964, at the height of her fame, she was asked to represent the Netherlands at the Eurovision Song Contest. In the Dutch national final Anneke sung three songs: Jij Bent Mijn Leven, Weer Zingt De Wind and Vliegende Hollander. The winner was chosen by twelve regional juries who chose Jij Bent Mijn Leven. In Copenhagen Anneke came 10th.

Many years later Anneke said in an interview she didn't like Jij Bent Mijn Leven. Her choice would have been Vliegende Hollander. In 1969 Anneke paricipated at the Dutch national final with the song Heartbeat which came 5th.

In 2000 Anneke was named Singer of the Century because the selling records of her single Brandend Zand. Anneke still performs, most of the time in Indonesia.
