Grethe Ingmann

Grethe Ingmann (1938-1990) was a Danish singer.

In 1956 she married Jørgen Ingmann, they formed the singing duo Grethe og Jørgen Ingmann and they were quite successful in Denmark. In 1963 they participated in the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix, de Danish pre-selection for the Eurovision Song Contest, which they won with the song Dansevise. After an exiting voting and some vague problems with the Norwegian jury they won the Eurovision Song Contest with Dansevise which was the first Scandinavian song that won the contest. In 1975 Grethe and Jørgen split up and Grethe went on to start a solo career.

Denmark stopped participating in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1966 but after eleven years of absence the Danish broadcaster organized a national final in 1978 in which Grethe sang the song Eventyr which came 5th. In 1979 she participated again in the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix, together with Bjarne Liller she sung Alt Er Skønt. The winning song was chosen by the votes of 8 regional juries. There was a tie for first place at the end of the voting between Tommy Seebach and Grethe Ingmann & Bjarne Liller, therefore there had to be a re-vote which Tommy Seebach won by 51 points to 36. In 1980 she participated for the last time in the Danish pre-selection, she came 3rd with the song Hej Hej Det Swinger.

Grethe covered a lot of eurovision songs, most of them together with Jørgen Ingmann.
