The final was held at the NDR TV studios in Hamburg, hosted by Henno Lohmeyer. Six songs took part, with the winning song chosen by an 11-member jury who each awarded one point to their favourite song. "Paradies, wo bist du?" was the choice of 8 of the jurors.

Ulla Wiesner (born in 1941 in Munich) was active from 1963 to 2002 as a singer. In 1965, she represented Germany in the Eurovision Song Contest, with her song, Paradies, wo bist du? It scored zero points along with three other countries out of the fifteen which entered in total.
Since then, notable singles of hers include titles such as Abends kommen die Sterne, My Darling, My Love and Charade.
Wiesner married the German TV producer and personality Alexander Arnz (1932–2004) in 1999.
