Germany was represented by the band Wind, with the song Laß die Sonne in dein Herz, at the 1987 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place in Brussels. Laß die Sonne in dein Herz was the winner of the German national final, held on March 26. This was the second of three appearances by Wind at Eurovision, they had previously finished second for Germany in 1985 and would return to the contest in 1992.
Before the final there were 2 semi-finals. The German semi-final was broadcast on several radio stations, and the 12 finalists were chosen by televoting. The semi-final was in two separate parts which were broadcast on different days. The German Final was held on March 26th at the Frankenhalle in Nürnberg, hosted by Christopher Deumling. The winning song was chosen by the votes of approximately 1000 people who were chosen by an institute to be representative of the German population. Other participants included the following year's German entrants Maxi & Chris Garden and Michael Hoffmann, who had represented Germany in 1983 as half of Hoffmann & Hoffmann with brother Günter.
