Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest - 1994

The Swedish Final, Melodifestivalen 1994, was held at the SVT TV-House in Stockholm on March 12th, hosted by Sven Melander & Kattis Ahlström. The 10 songs were reduced to 5 finalists before the winner was chosen by 11 regional juries.

The winner was Stjärnorna, sung by Marie Bergman and Roger Pontare, written by by Peter Bertilsson and Mikael Littwold.

Marie Bergman and Roger Pontare opened the contest, singing 1st of 25 countries. At the close of the voting they had received 48 points, placing 13th.

Marie Bergman (born November 21 1950 in Stockholm) is a Swedish singer. Between 1969 and 1972, she was a member of the group Family Four, which represented Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1971 and 1972. She started her solo career in 1974. She has released 13 own-written records and 2 jazz albums and has received numerous awards. In 1994 she again represented Sweden at the Eurovision, this time with Roger Pontare, setting a record as the singer who has represented Sweden at the ESC the most times. This was equalled by Carola Häggkvist in 2006. Marie has performed at the Roskilde Festival four times.


Fred Roger Pontare (born as Fred Roger Johansson on 17 October 1951 in Slagnäs, Arjeplog Municipality, Sweden) is a Swedish musician. He currently lives in Vingåker, Södermanland County.

He represented Sweden twice in the Eurovision Song Contest, in 1994 (duet with Marie Bergman) with Stjärnorna and in 2000 with When Spirits Are Calling My Name, placing 13th and 7th, respectively. Roger released 5 quite successful labums.
